I, like many other single individuals get denied on the daily for ANY fertility help. This is the sad truth. Despite adoption agencies trying to end the discrimination against single parents in the 1960s systematic efforts to recruit single parents began, initiated by advocates of the special needs revolution in adoption. The Los Angeles Bureau of Adoptions launched the first program to recruit single parents for foster care and adoption in 1965. There is STILL rampant disrespect and discrimination in the fertility and parenting area. Almost every fertility grant I've applied for, loan options, pregnancy advertisements and marketing, and doctors' consultations appointments all of them ask for a second person. It seems like pregnancy is just for couples, not windows, single dads, grandparents, or single career-oriented single individuals like myself who haven't been so blessed in the love department due to my "high standards" and not wanting to break my vows to myself and my God.
Most families in America are headed by single households either from the 50% divorce rates, 70-90% single mothers rate, or 28% of adopted children who are adopted by single mothers, or what about the 1.25 million American children who have an incarcerated parent? There are so many other people to look at like the military parents or the children who have a dead parent. America is basically raised by single parents who try their butts off. Let's give them the support they deserve!
