Support Rt 67 Cell Tower

Support Rt 67 Cell Tower
The Issue
On April 2, 2025, the Washington County Board of Zoning Appeals held a hearing to consider a special exception for the erection of a Verizon cellphone tower on the property located at 3417 Rohrersville Rd, Rohrersville, MD 21729, belonging to Boonsboro 1st Hose Fire Company. In doing so, the board heard the concerns of community members regarding their support of or opposition to the setback minimums of the tower. A vote was held by the board and the zoning appeal was passed in a 3-2 vote IN SUPPORT of the setback minimum reductions.
Issues of concern presented by opposition included an obstructed mountain view, the safety of a child’s play structure during a potential storm, hunting trail access through private property, potential health risk and reduced property values.
Issues cited by supporters of the tower included increased safety to Fire, EMS and Police personnel when responding to emergency calls for service, the ability of drivers, hunters, recreationalists, farmers and community members to call 911 for emergency matters when in the “dead zone” of Rt 67, the need for cell and internet service for virtual/home schooling children and work from home families and the benefits of valuable emergency equipment that could be purchased utilizing the increased funding our local fire dept would receive from the tower’s placement on their property. The tower would be a valuable asset to serve the community, without raising taxes in such a rural area .
The benefits of the tower providing safety and security in our community, that relies so heavily on our emergency services, volunteers and reliable, real-time communication far out weighs the personal gain of a handful of residents.
Please take a moment to read the notes from the hearing so that you can make an educated decision about what YOU want for YOUR community. The opposition to the tower has 30 days to file for a reconsideration of the decision in court. If you feel so inclined to support the efforts of making South County a safer place for EVERYONE, please sign and share this petition.
