Support Reggae & Prayer Festival : A Wellbeing Community Festival in Lewisham
The Issue
In a time when communities are increasingly divided, public spaces are underused, and many people feel disconnected from culture, faith, and one another, Reggae & Prayer responds with a positive alternative. Rooted in reggae’s historic message of peace, justice, and unity, the festival uses music, reflection, food, and community gathering to support wellbeing, encourage dialogue, and create calm, inclusive spaces where people of different backgrounds and beliefs can reconnect.
Growing up in Lewisham, reggae was the soundtrack of my childhood. As the grandson of the Windrush generation, my family journey is deeply rooted in reggae, faith, and community. My grandfather, a humble farmer from St Elizabeth, Jamaica, grounded our family in faith through his involvement with the Salvation Army, while reggae music filled our home through my parents. Carrying this legacy forward, I became a DJ, using music as a way to honour culture, spirituality, and connection.
Today, I am seeking support to bring the Reggae & Prayer Festival to Lewisham — a peaceful, daytime community festival designed to bring people together through music, wellbeing, reflection, culture, and food.
What Will Happen on the Day
🎶 Music & Culture Stage
Live roots and conscious reggae performances by UK artists, acoustic sets, spoken word, and community choirs celebrating reggae’s spiritual and social message.
🙏 Prayer & Reflection Spaces
Quiet, respectful areas for prayer and reflection, including Christian and Muslim prayer spaces, alongside non-denominational reflection zones open to all.
🗣️ Reasoning & Talk Corners
Dedicated spaces for open conversation, intergenerational dialogue, and community discussions around wellbeing, culture, faith, and current social issues.
🏃🏾♂️ Wellbeing & Games Area
Light track-and-field activities, Caribbean traditional games, and friendly competitions promoting movement, joy, and positive energy for all ages.
🌱 Gardening Community & Green Spaces
Gardening and planting areas encouraging care for public parks, alongside wellbeing and community information stalls.
🍽️ Caribbean Food & Community Stalls
Caribbean food traders offering Halal, Ital, and vegan-friendly options, ensuring the festival is welcoming and accessible to people of different faiths, cultures, and dietary needs.
Beyond music, this festival supports reggae artists, promotes positive use of public green spaces, and offers a safe, inclusive environment that reflects Lewisham’s cultural diversity.
Lewisham’s parks provide the perfect backdrop for this gathering — a place where reggae rhythms, shared reflection, and community togetherness can exist in harmony. The festival honours the legacy of the Windrush generation while creating space for future generations to connect, learn, and heal.
I respectfully urge Lewisham Council to support and permit the Reggae & Prayer Festival. By doing so, we can strengthen community bonds, support wellbeing, and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Lewisham special.
Please sign this petition and help bring the Reggae & Prayer Festival to life in Lewisham.
