The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of the Fontainebleau area, respectfully submit this petition to urge the Miami-Dade County Commission, Fontainebleau Lakes Community Development District, and the State of Florida to approve the installation of protective fencing and open access gate doors around the shared green areas maintained by Las Ramblas Community and the Fontainebleau Lakes Community Development District.

The green areas in our community represent a crucial space for residents to interact with nature, engage in physical activities, and foster community spirit. These areas are not only valuable for their aesthetic beauty, but they also contribute to the health and well-being of our local environment and residents. However, without adequate protection, these green zones face threats from vandalism, litter, and unauthorized activities that can damage the integrity and safety of these spaces.

Background:

For years, the Las Ramblas Community and the Fontainebleau Lakes Community Development District has taken pride in maintaining and preserving the shared green spaces, walking trails, and lakes that benefit both residents and visitors. These areas serve as vital recreational and environmental assets to the Fontainebleau neighborhood.

However, in recent months and over the years, the community has faced increasing incidents of vandalism, theft, illegal nighttime activity, and vehicle trespassing onto pedestrian zones. These behaviors not only endanger residents but also threaten the preservation of the local fauna, landscaping, and overall public safety.

Petition Request: We respectfully petition the County and State authorities to:

1. Approve the installation of protective fencing around the Fontainebleau green areas, designed with open access points to maintain public entry while improving safety. The goal is to re-route pedestrian traffic to select entrances between all of the adjacent communities versus from 100’s of access points.

2. Coordinate with the Fontainbleau Lakes CDD to ensure that the fencing complements existing landscaping and does not restrict public enjoyment of the green areas.

3. Approve permits for this project as a public safety and environmental protection measure. All fundings will come from the Fontainbleau Lakes CDD (funds have already been collected to fund the project).

4. Recognize this initiative as a shared effort between communities and local government to enhance safety, reduce crime, and preserve public green spaces.

Community Impact:

This initiative will:

1. Reduce incidents of vandalism, theft, and unsafe behavior;

2. Protect families, pedestrians, and local wildlife;

3. Maintain public access to recreational areas monitored conditions;

4. Strengthen the partnership between residents and local authorities in sustaining a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming environment.

We, the residents and supporters of the Fontainebleau neighborhood, fully endorse and support this proposal and urge our elected representatives and local associations to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of all who live and visit this area.

Installing protective fencing and  access gates will ensure that these areas are preserved for future generations. These measures will help regulate entry, mitigating risks and ensuring that the green areas remain a safe, clean, and enjoyable space for all community members.
The presence of protective measures around green spaces has been shown to significantly reduce incidents of vandalism and littering. Communities with safeguarded natural areas report increased pride among their residents and a greater sense of ownership and responsibility toward local environments.

Please join us in advocating for the protection and enhancement of our shared green spaces by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure a greener, safer, and more vibrant future for the Fontainebleau area.
