Support Proposal 2 to Speed Up Vital City Services
The Issue
New York City had five ballot proposals this midterm election, we showed up and voted and passed them through. Now the work and accountability begins. I wanted to break down what Proposal #2 actually means without making it more complicated than it needs to be.
This one stood out to me right away. It deals with organizations that contract with the city to provide youth services, job training, and other public services, and the whole point is simple: less time stuck in paperwork, more time actually serving people.
What frustrates me is how often we accept slow bureaucracy like it's just normal, even when real people are the ones paying the price. If a group is trying to deliver programs for young people, help someone get job training, or provide services our communities depend on, they should not be trapped waiting on layers of administrative delay. To me, that is exactly the kind of red tape that makes government feel disconnected from everyday New Yorkers.
I understand why people want safeguards, and I do too. But this proposal is not throwing the whole process away. There are still protections in place. What it does is reduce unnecessary steps so organizations can spend more time doing the work they were funded to do instead of getting buried in approvals that slow everything down.
If we want a city government that works faster and serves people better, this is a practical place to start. Proposal 2 is about making sure services reach New Yorkers without needless delay. If you believe city government should help people, not hold them up, please support and sign this petition.
