Support Prop 22 for Poplin Laundry Service App

The Issue

I recently started using Poplin, a convenient laundry service app that connects independent workers to clients needing laundry services. At first, it seemed like an excellent opportunity to earn some extra income, but I quickly realized a significant problem - the cost of gas. The amount spent on fuel is substantial, and with no compensation for this expense, it’s simply not feasible to continue accepting orders.

This issue deeply impacts many workers like me who rely on gig work to make ends meet. In California, independent contractors providing ride-share or delivery services, like those working for Uber or Lyft, have received benefits under Proposition 22. This measure was designed to provide certain protections and benefits to gig workers, which include minimum earnings, healthcare subsidies, and compensation for vehicle expenses like gas. However, similar or smaller platforms like Poplin have not been included under this regulation.

Including Poplin under Prop 22 would be a game changer for myself and others providing laundry services. It would ensure that we receive the necessary protections and compensation that truly reflect the operational costs involved in these services. By adopting Proposition 22 for Poplin, we can ensure fair treatment and sustainability for countless workers who depend on such jobs.

The California legislature has the power to amend Prop 22 to include other types of gig workers such as laundry service providers. It requires recognizing the challenges and financial burdens we face daily and putting fairer measures in place.

I urge the California lawmakers to consider this amendment and align Poplin under Prop 22 to provide us with the financial relief necessary to continue offering essential services without bearing excessive personal costs.

Please sign this petition to advocate for fair compensation and protections for Poplin workers under Proposition 22. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a sustainable future for gig workers across the state.

Thank you in advance! WE ARE THE CHANGE!
