We are deeply committed to the principles of human rights, freedom of expression, and scientific inquiry. These values have led us to stand in solidarity with Professor Ghassan Hage, a distinguished anthropologist, public intellectual, and one of the most eloquent progressive academic voices. 

Author of "White Nation", "Is Racism an Environmental Threat", "Diasporic Conditions", "Aler Politics", and "Decay", he has been subjected to a vicious smear campaign in Germany by certain journalists and pro-Israel activists for his stance condemning war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli army and settlers against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

Professor Hage's commitment to deconstructing all forms of racism and domination through rigorous academic research is commendable. His work as a scholar has always been marked by integrity. However, this smear campaign threatens not only his reputation, but the very foundation of free speech upon which education is based.

We must not allow these attempts to besmirch his name to succeed. Although Ghassan Hage was forced to end his relationship with the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle/Saale, Germany, which has chosen to "interrogate" him rather than defend him, it is imperative that we support his work and his positions as a scholar and a citizen.
