Support Principal Bayer and Prevent Unnecessary Termination

The Issue

We are students at Pembroke Pines Charter High School  and our principal is Peter Bayer. Recently, he received backlash for a photo posted last year in support of first responders on the anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Shooting. (seen in the link below.)

Many students were offended because with Charter being a school with a lot of diversity, many felt the police flag  that has been associated with the movement "Blue Lives Matter" was insensitive to the black student community. After students reached out, Bayer felt awful and responded with a sincere apology (also seen in the link below). At the end of his post, he said Black Lives Matter, to show his solidarity with the student body.

As a result of this, many members of the community were offended by his "betrayal" to the PPPD and an article was published about the situation that included a message from a retired PPPD sergeant. This message called for his termination and even said that he did not deserve the services of the police department, should he need it.

We feel that Bayer shared a sincere apology and had words put in his mouth. He never said anything against the police; he even called the first responders in the photo "honorees", and organized this day of appreciation for them. We want to show  support for our principal, who has loved and cared for the our school for the past 20 some years.
