OUR NURSES NEED ISLANDERS TO SPEAK UP THEY HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CONTRACT SINCE MARCH 2025 - THEY CANNOT STRIKE

When Islanders are sick, frightened or facing one of the most critical moments of our lives, nurses are the people we depend on.

They deserve to be paid well for the vital work they do.

A PEI nurse with 15 years of seniority earns approximately $50.51 an hour. Meanwhile, private agency nurses on PEI can cost more than $125 an hour, with the agency rate reported at $300 an hour.

The PEI Nurses' Union 2024 Annual Report, page 9, states:

“Hourly rates for private agency nurses on PEI are now exceeding $125/hr for the RN and rates of $300/hr for the agency rate.”
PEI nurses are also paid less than nurses in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Our nurses have dedicated years of their lives to caring for Islanders, yet the province is paying dramatically more for temporary nursing services.

And there is something else Islanders need to remember:

OUR NURSES CANNOT STRIKE.

They cannot simply walk away from the patients who depend on them when contract negotiations become difficult.

So now it is our turn to stand up for them.

We are asking the Government of PEI to negotiate a fair and competitive contract that recognizes the experience, dedication and critical importance of our nurses.

We depend on our nurses when we need them most. They cannot strike. So now it is our turn to stand up for them.
