The Issue

Dear Robbinsville Parents and Residents,

On Monday evening June 6th, 2022, our Robbinsville Education Teachers Association (REA) held a community meeting to discuss the state of our schools and share teacher concerns with parents, staff, and residents.  The State of our Schools Presentation * included shocking datapoints and heartbreaking teacher antidotes of how undervalued and undercompensated our teachers are in our school district.  Parents that attended this meeting were extremely upset to hear that:

1) 66.2% of our teachers and staff are actively looking for a new job.

2) 55.7% of our teachers and staff are working a second job to make ends meet.

3) As teachers remain in our school district, continue their education, and increase their professional development, their pay scale remains stagnate and significantly deviates from other neighboring school districts in terms of appropriate pay compensation.

4) Several of this year's Teacher of the Year Award Recipients shared that they have received offers from neighboring school districts that provide a significant pay increase and benefits package that they are currently thinking of accepting.

5) A beloved Pond Technology Teacher recently left Robbinsville to teach at Trenton because that school district more appropriately compensated for that teacher's years of experience and education.

6) Our RHS Coaching staff is significantly underpaid in comparison to other school districts in our county and their positions have yet to be approved by our BOE, resulting in a delay in sports tryouts.

7) An RHS Special Education Inclusion Teacher shared that in her 20 years of teaching she's worked with 12 different co-teachers. That constant change of staff has made her job extremely difficult to build an education partnership and provide consistency to our special education students.

8) Over the past several months, we have lost a total of 34 Robbinsville school district staff - 11 Sharon, 10 Pond, 10 High School, and 3 Student Services. More are expected to be announced in June.

9) At this time, club advisors are not all paid for their time and in some cases, those that are split the stipend. For example, the Play Unified club at PRMS is so popular, two teachers are needed to ensure that the club is safely run and must split the stipend.

As parents, if any of these above mentioned datapoints concern you, there is time for our parent community to unite and urge our Robbinsville BOE to negotiate a teacher's contract that accurately reflects our teachers' efforts and financially compensates for all that they do for our children.
