Support our efforts in urging the VOB to restore two multi-purpose courts this summer
The Issue
As many of you are aware, at Saturday, March 23rd's Village Trustee meeting, the Mayor declared that since the Phase 2 of the flood mitigation project would commence after Labor Day, the Village plans on only restoring one tennis court for this summer.
This goes against what has been promised over the last several months. While we completely understand that investing in a multi-purpose court does not make sense at this time as it will need to be ripped up in September, eliminating one of our two courts is NOT the solution. Ocean Beach is a community that is severely underserved with recreation facilities.
Before the Mayor and Board makes a decision without hearing from the citizens, they should do two things:
1) request that the contractor re-cement the current tennis court area, allowing for the west court to be carpeted for tennis use exclusively, and the east court to remain cement for multi-purpose use, such as tennis, pickleball and basketball.
2) inform the citizens of Ocean Beach of the cost to repave the additional court allowing the taxpayers the chance to have their voice heard.
OBYG and OB Rec's bigger concern is if the village gets rid of one of the courts now, there’s a very high likelihood we will never see two courts in Ocean Beach again.
Let us come together as a community and urge our elected officials to reconsider their decision. Please sign this petition urging that two courts be restored for this summer instead of just one.
Please also reach out to the Mayor and Trustees at info@villageofoceanbeach.org.
