Dear Oakland Chinatown supporters,
Thank you to everyone who has signed the online petition, shared it across your networks and/or has helped us collect physical petitions out in the community. Every bit helps.
Yesterday, empowered by over 500 signatures from the community that were collected in 48 hours, staff from Asian Health Services (AHS) and East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) made their case before the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC).
MTC unanimously voted to approve the purchase, which is positive progress. We read aloud some of your comments at those meetings which has helped strengthen our argument.
The BART Board of Directors now has 45 days to exercise their first right of refusal, meaning they could block the purchase.
We attended this morning's BART meeting with Chinatown residents to make our intentions clear. While we're still formulating our strategy, we'll continue to call upon your public support as we move forward.
How can you get involved?
(1) Continue to promote this petition. If you'd like to circulate hard-copy petitions in Chinese or Vietnamese, contact Mike Lok mlok@ahschc.org
(2) We might organize physical presences at BART Board Meetings
(3) If you'd like to volunteer on this campaign, email us mlok@ahschc.org
Let's keep up the intensity to try to reclaim our Oakland Chinatown land.
