Support our efforts for a Oakland Chinatown Lake Merritt BART Transit Village
The Issue
Join us to make sure Oakland Chinatown is a thriving neighborhood for generations to come! Asian Health Services (AHS) and East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) have made an offer to purchase a portion of the MetroCenter in order to turn it into a mixed-use nonprofit space for organizations focused on Chinatown. We want programming that will activate the street by bringing new retail or retail-like uses to this area, providing long-term affordable space to service organizations, and improving Madison Park so that it is useful and attractive to both seniors and youth. Establishing a footprint for service organizations, civic uses, and additional housing in this part of the neighborhood will help Chinatown stay vital for generations to come. We urge MTC & BART to consider the needs and aspirations of this historic community and to participate in community development that is innovative and builds on the natural assets and resources of the historic neighborhood, while illuminating the talents and culture that is Oakland. We urge you to help us convince MTC & BART that Oakland Chinatown has the right and the resources to continue to grow, thrive and become a strong and vibrant neighborhood. See the whole letter of what we'll send to MTC below, your support is a critical piece. For more information please contact Julia Liou (jliou@ahschc.org) or Ener Chiu (echiu@ebaldc.org)
