We are dedicated hockey moms with children involved in minor hockey. Kelly, apart from being a mother, is also a board member of the Lambton Attack Girls Hockey Association and a local business owner. Lisa, also involved in her children's hockey pastime, works as a local pharmacist. As active citizens of Petrolia, we recognize the need for more recreational spaces in our community for our children and for all residents.

Various clubs and associations currently utilize the available ice pad making extra ice time limited. We believe the construction of an additional ice pad would not only allow more ice time for public use, but also create opportunities for local teams to host tournaments, promoting fitness, family time, and community bonding.

Additionally, a new ice pad could serve dual-purposes throughout the year. During warmer seasons, it could transform into an area for ball hockey games or leagues or a roller-skating area providing year-round recreational activities that go beyond winter sports. This would significantly increase recreational opportunities and engagement in our community.

Research suggests that regular physical exercise contributes to improved mental health and physical well-being (source: Public Health Agency of Canada). Adding another ice pad guarantees more space for Lambton County residents to stay active regardless of the season, a vital aspect for a community's health and well-being.

We call on decision-makers in Lambton County to consider our request seriously. The benefits an extra ice pad brings to our community, from promoting physical and mental health to fostering community ties and local business growth, are vast. It's time to invest in our community's future; it's time for more ice.
