We the undersigned residents of the City of Ojai, support the Public Works Yard as the permanent site for the Cabin Village.  

The 12.7 million dollar Encampment Resolution Grant provides Ojai with a unique opportunity to provide permanent supportive housing to 30 unhoused individuals with strong ties to the Ojai Valley.  These people, of whom two thirds are over the age of 53, are currently housed in tents on the City Hall on the Kent Hall Parking lot.  

The current situation is untenable, both for the campers and for the ability of our city to function, as it bifurcates the offices of the city government. Additionally, it is surrounded closely on three sides by homes.  Over a year has been spent trying to find an appropriate location with the least direct impact to neighbors.  The Public Works site provides the best location for this project, housing more residents at less cost and providing an environment that is both secluded, yet close to services in the downtown area. 

We urge the City of Ojai Planning Commission, the Mayor and the City Council to do the right thing and approve the Public Works Site as the project’s permanent location.
