Support 'Neighbor friendly' locations of home generators.

The Issue

Since the Texas power grid is unstable, permanent generators are being installed in our Coppell neighborhoods. One Coppell homeowner has installed a generator which is 20 feet from a neighbor’s master bedroom, please see the picture.  Note, other neighbors have been more considerate and installed their generator near the garage, see alternative location.

So, when the power goes out, as it did on Oct 23rd 2023 at midnight in Coppell, the noise level and vibrations from the generator made the master bedroom uninhabitable.  And imagine the noise level and air pollution if it’s a hot summer night and you have a bedroom window open.

Can you image putting your kids or grandkids to sleep and then having them roused from their sleep by a neighbor’s generator? And then having to move your sleeping quarters and your kids at 2 am to another room on the other side of the house.  Can you imagine not being able to sleep in your bedrooms for several nights due to a neighbor’s generator?

If you value sleeping in your bedroom, please let the City of Coppell Council via email at citycouncil@coppelltx.gov.  If you live in a Home Owners Association (HOA) please contact the HOA to discuss generator location preferences.

Please request an ordinance that will require a home generator to be installed near the garage and away from bedrooms.
