As your constituent and a supporter of Transportation for America, I’m writing to encourage you to co-sponsor S. 1036, the Federal Surface Transportation Policy and Planning Act of 2009, introduced by Senators Rockefeller (D-WV) and Lautenberg (D-NJ).

This legislation sets a bold new vision for federal transportation policy in order to address the current and future needs of our economy, energy, environment and health. The measure establishes a unifying mission for the federal surface transportation program, including goals to increase system safety, to repair and maintain existing assets, and to reduce congestion and carbon emissions through increased use of transit, rail, and non-motorized transportation.
