This is for the parents who have a loved one who has been or is suffering from mental health issues. I am sharing this because I can relate to this topic so much and the topic is teen suicide. I say I can relate to this topic because as a teen myself I have had thoughts of this tragic ideology when I was 15. I was deeply depressed. I had lost my father, my life as a freshman in high school was awful and life overall was too much for me to handle.
I won't upset you with any further details, but I was hospitalized that same day, courtesy of my mother, who drove me to the local psychiatric hospital back in August of 1994. It was there that I was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. In the next four months, in late November of 1994, I had gotten my symptoms in check and began the process of getting additional recovery at a local rehabilitation facility.
To the parents of teens who have a mental illness, please support them as best as you can and get them the help they need. Your support will let your teen know that you still love them and want them to get better as they get the help that they need.
