Support Marriage Equality for New Yorkers!

The Issue

Gay and lesbian couples all across New York state want to marry because they're in loving, committed relationships. They want to make the public commitment that marriage brings, and nothing says family like marriage.

The time is now to pass marriage equality in New York. Polls show an unprecedented majority of New Yorkers in favor of legalizing marriage for gay and lesbian couples.

But New Yorkers need all the support they can get from pro-equality Americans across the nation -- because they've been this close before. Just a year and a half ago the New York State Senate failed to pass marriage equality. But public opinion has shifted both nationwide and in New York, where 58 percent of New Yorkers supporting marriage equality – from people young and old, and of all political parties. And the newly-elected Governor Andrew Cuomo recently reiterated his support for passing marriage equality now.

Still, the Human Rights Campaign and other groups working hard on the ground in New York are taking nothing for granted. The right-wing National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has pledged $1.5 million to defeat marriage equality in New York.

A win in New York would amplify the drumbeat for marriage equality across the nation. Please stand up for marriage equality -- and support the critical work of those on-the-ground in New York securing marriage rights right now.
