Support Markell Price's appeal for justice
The Issue
Markell Price, an innocent man, remains behind bars due to a wrongful conviction of murder in Iowa. His story is a heart-wrenching example of the flaws within our criminal justice system that continues to affect many lives. Markell was convicted without any concrete physical evidence linking him to the crime. The prosecution primarily relied on circumstantial evidence and unreliable testimonies. The case against Markell raises numerous red flags, including witness statements that have been contradicted by subsequent testimonies, an inadequate defense during his trial, and the presence of evidence that was either overlooked or mishandled. This vital information, which could exonerate Markell, was not presented at his trial. It's imperative that during this appeal process, the truth is unveiled and Markell is given the fair trial he never received.
The state primary eyewitness confessed to the murder on the 911 call. The defense was not allowed to introduce the 911 call into the evidence. In the interrogation room the state primary eyewitness confessed on video and audio in the interview with the police. Stating how he killed the victim and how the police told him that he didn’t do it and that the black guys did. The defense tried to introduce this video into evidence and the state objected it and said it was hearsay and the Judge did not allow this evidence which was the video to be introduced into the evidence. This is a clear Brady violation. The state also did not allow Price to call a key witness in his defense that was present at the time of the murder. See State vs Herd, if the State would allow this information to come into the courts, then Price would have not got convicted of a murder.
Innocent lives should never be crushed by the errors of the justice system. Every day Markell spends in prison is a day stolen from him — from his family his kids and his future.
