Develop a regulatory framework that supports Lyft and the peer-to-peer ridesharing industry.
Develop a regulatory framework that supports Lyft and the peer-to-peer ridesharing industry.
The Issue
As a leading center of business and culture, Toronto needs world-class transportation that is safe, reliable and embraces technology. Ridesharing applications, like Lyft, can help us to improve transportation, strengthen our communities, and enhance our reputation as a centre of progress and a safe and innovative city. Please join me in signing this petition to bring ridesharing to Toronto.
--------------------------
The concept of ridesharing is nothing new. For decades, everyday individuals have provided rides to friends, neighbours, and casual acquaintances through office carpooling lists, commuter pick-up lines, and employer and community ride boards. The benefits of ridesharing are unmistakable.
Thanks to advances in technology, and the popularity of smartphones, we’ve come a long way with ridesharing. By instantly connecting passengers and drivers, we can encourage single occupancy drivers to share rides. We can provide passengers with safer, more reliable and affordable transport. We can reduce road congestion, make a positive impact on the environment, and improve public safety in our communities. We need more options in this city and Lyft, a responsible, community-oriented service, should be one of them.
I use ridesharing platforms because they’re safe, fun and they provide a seamless customer experience. When I used Lyft in San Francisco, I had a copy of my driver's photo, name and license plate number, and was able to track my ride. I could provide instant feedback on my driver, which encouraged polite and friendly service and ensured a positive experience for future users.
I believe that by more efficiently using our vehicles, ridesharing ultimately reduces the number of cars on the road because it provides an alternative to car ownership for so many.
As a community leader and advocate of the sharing economy, I am committed to growing this movement in Toronto; I am deeply interested in peer-to-peer platforms and marketplaces that enable greater efficiency and access.
That’s why I want Toronto to take the lead in developing a regulatory framework that supports the peer-to-peer ridesharing industry.
So please join me in showing your support by sending a message to political leaders and raising awareness with your friends and others in our community.
