Nyack’s community has long been characterized by its progressive spirit and welcoming nature. For many of us here, utilizing cannabis products is a way to manage chronic pain, alleviate stress, or ensure a restful night's sleep. Knowing firsthand the benefits that legal and regulated cannabis can bring, it is imperative that we support the opening of legal adult use cannabis dispensaries in our town's downtown, the former Communal Kitchen location. 

In addition to individual health benefits, such dispensaries would be a boon for our local economy, creating jobs and bringing in tax revenues that can be reinvested into the community. According to data from states where cannabis has been legalized, such as Colorado, the cannabis industry has been pivotal in economic growth and has funded public projects including education and infrastructure. 

Moreover, establishing legal dispensaries ensures that products are regulated for safety and quality, reducing the risk associated with black market purchases from unlicensed storefronts and will likely drive such operations out of business and out of town. It fosters a sense of safety and transparency, helping all individuals feel accepted and supported in our community.

Opposing legal dispensaries might seem like a safer option, but it only perpetuates stigmas and denies individuals the chance to procure safe, regulated products. We owe it to our fellow residents—whether they use cannabis for adult use or medicinal purposes—to make sure they are doing so in a way that is safe and beneficial.

More than just a nod to modernity, supporting legal dispensaries aligns with acknowledging and responding to the needs of many residents. It is about embracing inclusivity and celebrating choice.
