We are calling on community members, local leaders, and decision-makers to support JLD Boxing Academy as we navigate a permitting process that has forced us to suspend operations at our Santa Maria location.

JLD Boxing Academy is more than a place to train. For many young people, it is a safe environment that provides structure, discipline, mentorship, accountability, and a positive outlet after school. Our academy serves children, teens, amateur athletes, and families throughout Santa Maria, offering opportunities that help keep youth engaged in healthy activities and away from negative influences.

Due to zoning and permitting requirements, our gym has been required to halt operations while pursuing a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). In addition to the lengthy approval process, the associated application costs and fees create a significant financial burden for a small, community-focused business dedicated to serving local families.

The temporary closure impacts far more than a business. It affects dozens of young athletes who rely on the gym for physical activity, mentorship, personal development, and a sense of belonging. Parents are now left without a valuable community resource that has positively influenced their children's lives.

We respectfully ask city leaders and decision-makers to:

• Support the approval of JLD Boxing Academy's Conditional Use Permit.

• Support the approval of JLD Boxing Academy's  Temporary Occupancy Permit.

• Support the consideration of reducing, waiving, or otherwise providing relief from the substantial permitting fees associated with this process.

• Recognize the important role youth recreation facilities play in promoting public safety, health, and community well-being.

• Work collaboratively with community organizations that are actively investing in Santa Maria's youth.

JLD Boxing Academy has demonstrated its commitment to the community by providing a positive environment where young people can develop confidence, discipline, respect, and resilience. We believe community-serving organizations should be encouraged and supported, not placed at risk of closure because of financial barriers within the permitting process.

By signing this petition, you are showing your support for local youth, local families, and the continuation of programs that make a meaningful difference in our community.

Thank you for standing with JLD Boxing Academy and the young people we serve.
