The Issue

Jaylin Leek-Davis has been incarcerated since he was 16 years old after becoming involved in a tragic incident that resulted in the loss of a loved one. While Jaylin did not fire the fatal shot and there is no proof that he did, he is paying the price for it. In September of 2021, two groups of kids got into an altercation where Jaylins brother ended up fatally shot. Each kid shooting a weapon got charged with his murder, including Jaylin. Although he made some poor decisions in his moment of fear and shock, he is paying the price of someone else's doing while also mourning his brother. Now 19, he has spent the last three years reflecting on that moment and working to become a better person. During his time incarcerated Jaylin has taken college courses, participated in rehabilitation programs, and shown real growth. He has left behind the influences that led him down the wrong path and is determined to use his experience to guide and protect others — especially young people facing similar circumstances. This petition asks Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Parole Board to consider commuting Jaylin’s sentence so that he can continue his journey of healing and begin giving back to the community he once struggled within. With the support of his family and loved ones, Jaylin is ready for a second chance at life. Please sign and share this petition to support Jaylin’s opportunity for redemption and a brighter future.
