The Issue

Animal Services in our community play a critical role in ensuring the welfare and safety of both animals and residents. However, due to limited staffing, these services often struggle to meet the increasing demands that come with a growing population and rising animal care needs. This puts a strain on the current employees, can lead to burnout, and more importantly, can negatively impact the level of care and attention animals receive.

The growing number of stray and abandoned animals, coupled with more cases of animal neglect and abuse, necessitates immediate action. Currently, the staff at Animal Services are overwhelmed, working overtime, and doing their utmost to provide care with the limited resources they have. Yet, without additional help, their capacity to continue offering high-quality care is seriously jeopardized.

Statistics from the National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) indicate that fully staffed shelters are able to rehome around 80% of adoptable animals within one month. In contrast, understaffed shelters fall behind, rehoming only about 60%. This is largely because there simply aren't enough people to care for these animals and facilitate the adoption process. When shelters are appropriately staffed, the animals receive better care, leading to higher adoption rates and healthier community environments.

Moreover, additional staff will not only relieve the current employees but will also allow the implementation of more proactive programs. For instance, increased community outreach and education programs about responsible pet ownership, spaying, and neutering could be initiated. These programs are pivotal in reducing the number of stray animals and promoting humane treatment of all creatures.

We urge the local government and relevant authorities to prioritize funding and support for hiring additional employees for Animal Services. By signing this petition, you are advocating for improved conditions for animal care workers, better services for our community, and ultimately, a safer and better life for the animals we hold dear.

Please sign this petition to make a meaningful change in our community and ensure the well-being of animals and those who care for them.
