The Coalition for Post Tubal Women (CPTwomen) and Feminist Health Rights Icon Dr. Vikki G. Hufnagel, MD Partners with the Women’s March on Washington:
(Chicago, Illinois, January 5, 2017) With just a few weeks to go before the January 21st Women’s March on Washington (WMW), the organizers announced that the Coalition for Post Tubal Women (CPTwomen) has signed on as a partner. Feminist health rights icon Dr. Vikki G. Hufnagel, MD and the CPTwomen founder, Susan Bucher, BSN, will be among the expected 200,000 plus attending the women’s march scheduled to take place by the U.S. Capitol the day after Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
The Women’s March on Washington demonstrates sodality that women’s rights are human rights and promotes the protection of rights, safety, and health for women and their families. The March currently now has more than 130 partners, including V-Day, NAACP, Planned Parenthood, and more. In a statement, Dr. Vikki Hufnagel said, “I’m thrilled that women are coming together to unify for their health and rights and to be part of this event”.
Hufnagel, an OBGYN surgeon and fierce proponent of women’s health rights, dedicated her life’s work to educating women about the issues affecting them and their quality of life. In the early days of the women’s healthcare movement she was a founding member of the Berkeley Women’s Health Collective and helped to establish the first free clinic for women at Berkeley. She contributed to the revolutionary self-help book “Our Bodies, Ourselves” (Simon and Schuster) with members of the Boston Bread and Roses Collective (the original edition was printed on news print). In the 80’s Hufnagel worked with Senator Diane Watson to put in place the nation’s FIRST informed consent law, Senate Bill 835 (Informed Consent to Hysterectomy). Today she continues her with the Hufnagel Bioethics Institute and organizations such as the CPTwomen to educate women about hysterectomy, morcellation, breast implants, sterilization risks, informed consent and to create social change.
