The Issue

We are asking for support for home-based bakers and small farm stands in Coweta County; the individuals and families who work hard to provide fresh, local food to their community.

Recently, a small home-based micro-bakery and farmstand was reported, resulting in the closure of its physical stand. While we understand the importance of local regulations and zoning, this situation has brought attention to a larger issue: the lack of clear, supportive pathways for small-scale, home-based food businesses to operate under Cottage Food Laws.

Across our county, many families rely on:

• Home-based bakers creating fresh breads and baked goods
• Small farm stands offering locally grown and homemade products
• Direct-to-community food access that supports both producers and neighbors

These are not large commercial operations. They are low-impact, community-centered efforts that:

• Strengthen the local economy
• Provide access to fresh, wholesome food
• Create connection between neighbors

At the same time, current interpretations of zoning and home occupation rules can make it difficult, or even impossible, for these small businesses to operate in simple, reasonable ways, such as occasional farmstands or limited, low-traffic sales.

We are asking Coweta County to:

• Clearly define and support guidelines for home-based bakers
• Allow reasonable, low-impact farm stands and direct sales from residences
• Create pathways that balance community safety with small business opportunity
• Encourage local food systems and entrepreneurship

We believe it is possible to maintain the integrity of residential neighborhoods while also allowing small-scale food producers to serve their communities in thoughtful, responsible ways.

By signing this petition, you are supporting:

• Local farmers and bakers
• Fresh, accessible food in our community
• Small businesses and family-run operations
• A stronger, more connected local economy

We are not asking to remove regulations -  we are asking for clarity, flexibility, and support so that home-based bakers and farmstands can continue to exist and serve Coweta County.

Thank you for supporting local.
