Hi folks, we just got back from City Hall where Council voted unanimously to support our application for an historic designation for The Jubilee House. Thank you all for the support. Over 5,000 of you agreed there are some things about our past of such beauty, quality, usefulness, and durability that they are worth hanging on to.
The present is the fruit of the past and the seed of the future. Many good things have come from this effort. We got to meet and talk to so many people who have a connection to The Jubilee House. A lot of new research has revealed more of the fascinating connections that, like all of history, make up the story of The Jubilee House.
My favourite part of The Jubilee House story is how Boofie Chisholm used the property to support community meetings, charitable events, and gatherings of all sort that brought so many together. She also found a way, after her family had grown and husband passed, to use the big house to take in what folks used to call 'boarders'. It's the legacy of these boarders and their ongoing connection to Boofie and The Jubilee House that has left the biggest impact on me and my vision for the future of how this all plays out. Over the last several years we've host community events from Hope For Wildlife to Tap Root Farms Community Supported Agriculture and we've hosted immigrant guest families from as far away as Ukraine and Mauritius.
It's possible, at some point in the future that this designation will help hold together this historic neighbourhood as an inspirational example of our imagining of what a great community can be.
