As a senior member of the Harlem High School marching band, I've witnessed our beloved program face significant challenges. Over the past few years, even before I joined, the band has been slowly declining due to a lack of funding and support from the school board. We've been unable to maintain essential aspects of our program; we've had to cut our color guard program , our uniforms are tattered with holes, showcasing the neglect our program has endured.

Participation in the band not only promotes creativity and teamwork, but it also helps students develop discipline and leadership skills. Yet, we are not receiving the resources to nurture this potential. Our band numbers are dwindling because we simply can't attract new members while our program is in such dire condition. Our reality doesn't just affect the students like myself, who will soon graduate, but it is affecting those who will continue to be part of this institution in years to come.

It's crucial that we raise awareness about the hardships our band is facing. With adequate funding and support, future Harlem High School students can experience a thriving band program that enhances their educational journey, builds community, and inspires passion for music.
