Support Freedom of Choice for Hysterectomies in England

Support Freedom of Choice for Hysterectomies in England
The Issue
I am currently engaged in a personal struggle to obtain a hysterectomy, and I know that many other women across England are facing similar battles. Despite the fact that this surgery could significantly improve our quality of life by relieving us of chronic pain, severe menstrual symptoms, and emotional distress, the process of getting approved for a hysterectomy is dotted with barriers.
In England, women seeking a hysterectomy face an overwhelming array of hurdles. Often, they must prove their medical need to multiple healthcare providers, undergo various unsuccessful alternative treatments, and endure lengthy waiting periods, sometimes spanning years, before they are considered eligible for the surgery. It's not just about health; it's about autonomy and the freedom to make informed decisions about our own bodies.
The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of respecting, protecting, and fulfilling women’s autonomy and choice regarding healthcare. In alignment with these principles, it’s crucial that the UK health system evolves to prioritize women's healthcare needs and autonomy, offering them the ability to make choices freely regarding their reproductive health.
A hysterectomy decision should lie in the hands of the woman, supported by her healthcare provider, based on her unique needs and circumstances. We are pushing for policy reforms that simplify the approval process for hysterectomies, ensuring all women have access to unbiased, supportive medical advice and care.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for change in the UK’s healthcare policies, ensuring women in England have the freedom to make decisions about their health without unnecessary roadblocks. Please stand with us in support of women’s rights to bodily autonomy by signing this petition today.
Hi my name is zaina. I am 29 years old. I want all healthcare to understand its a women's choice to have a hysterectomy. I have been fighting a losing battle of my own with diagnosis of Adenomyosis and a cyst on my right ovary. I am fighting personally to have a hysterectomy.
i think all women with adenomyosis or endometriosis or any other medical issues that a hysterectomy would benefit them.
