On November 10, 2021 the City of Vernon announced that vaccinations would be mandatory for all its employees. The mandates would force employees to take the vaccinations by January 14, 2022 or be placed on leave without pay. 

This is an infringement of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Canadians should not have to be forced to take the vaccine in order to continue to do their jobs. No Canadian should ever have to be forced to take a vaccine that they do not want just to continue to have an income and make a living. 

Not only do the majority of City of Vernon employees work outside or alone, but they are an integral part of keeping our city safe, especially during the winter months when it is crucial that snowy roads and repairs are maintained and attended to in a timely manner.

Are we, as a community, willing to let go of highly qualified, trained, and knowledgeable, senior staff?
