Support Free Rent for James Marshall Parent Nursery School

Support Free Rent for James Marshall Parent Nursery School
The Issue
James Marshall Parent Nursery School (JMPNS) has been a cornerstone of the West Sacramento community since 1954, offering preschool education and free parent education to countless families. Like many others, my life was transformed when my oldest daughter enrolled at JMPNS, so much so that I have poured 18 years into fostering its growth and success. This school is not just an educational institution; it's a vibrant, cooperative community that nurtures both children and parents.
However, the future of JMPNS is currently at risk. The school's survival hinges on the Washington Unified School District abiding by their own Facilities Use Fee Schedule, acknowledging that we qualify as a Class I Free Use organization and correcting our lease agreement to reflect that. While our request to change the terms of our lease have been rejected in the past, without this being corrected now, JMPNS may no longer be able to provide its invaluable services to the community.
JMPNS has served hundreds, if not thousands, of young children and families over the years. The school's unique cooperative model allows parents to actively participate in their children’s education, fostering stronger family bonds and supporting early childhood development- both things that benefit WUSD as our families move on to their public school campuses.
The financial burden of rent threatens to undermine this model. By being recognized as an organization that qualifies for free rent under the WUSD policies, we can continue offering affordable tuition rates and free educational programs, ensuring that all families, regardless of their financial situation, can access our services.
We urge the Washington Unified School District to recognize the profound impact JMPNS has had and continues to have on the West Sacramento community. By granting us free rent, they will be investing in the education of future generations and preserving a crucial community resource.
Please join us in our fight to preserve this cherished institution. Your support can ensure that JMPNS remains a nurturing place for all families in West Sacramento for many more decades to come.
