Hello from the thunder alliance here at RF staples!

There was a time where we felt completely unsafe and unwelcome in our school and community. with the start of the GSA in recent years we started to find our people, the children who were once scared to come to school found a community, a home with each other.

In June of 2023 we painted a pride crosswalk, it was a fantastic event with hundreds of people coming out from all over to participate, support and have fun. we experienced so much love and kindness from our community that day, and it was really just amazing.

but after that, our crosswalk became a target of so much rage. It was vandalized, and now a plebiscite is to be voted on that would put a stop to it entirely. With the voting turnout in the westlock mayoral election, we hope we won’t have to worry.. but it’s still scary.

we’ve had some really incredible opportunities to volunteer and help out our community of Westlock and we’re proud to get to leave our mark on a crosswalk here in town, a reminder for the people like us that they’re loved and to be proud of who they are.

this petition is just to gather support in the face of such vile hate, and to find kindness.
