Support for Kalamoir Regional Park Trail Improvements

We, the undersigned, believe residents of the Okanagan deserve a opportunity to voice their support of the proposed trail improvements in Kalamoir Regional Park.

A petition opposing the lakefront trail enhancements contains misinformation and fear-based rhetoric. It is crucial to highlight the benefits of these upgrades: inclusive access, improved safety, responsible environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability for a valued regional park.

A Necessary and Beneficial Upgrade

Upgrading the existing lakefront trail ensures safer, more accessible, and environmentally sustainable pathways for all users, benefiting not only West Kelowna but the entire region.

Inclusive Access for All

Seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and families will benefit significantly from the trail improvement, ensuring more people can safely enjoy our natural spaces.

Responsibly Funded and Environmentally Sound

Funding comes from existing RDCO park budgets and provincial grants, aligning with RDCO’s sustainability goals. The project meets provincial environmental standards, minimizing ecological impact while enhancing accessibility.

Enhancing Kalamoir Park Without Changing Its Character

Kalamoir Park is a well-used, multi-purpose space. The park already features beaches, swimming area, adaptive dock, off-leash dog area and washrooms. Trail improvements will make it safer, more inclusive, and environmentally resilient without altering its fundamental character.

Supporting Safety, Sustainability, and Equity

Improving trails reduces erosion and unmanaged foot traffic, protecting the environment while enhancing user experience. Survey data shows strong support for better walking and hiking infrastructure.

Encouraging Active Transportation and Reducing Vehicle Use

Better trail access encourages walking and cycling over driving, reducing congestion and emissions while improving the park experience.

A Long-Overdue Investment

These improvements represent responsible stewardship and forward-thinking planning for one of our region’s most cherished parks.

Call to Action

We urge the RDCO Board to approve the upgrade of the lakefront trail, ensuring Kalamoir Park remains safe, accessible, and environmentally sustainable.
