We were successful in passing a motion to start the process of building a synthetic turf field in the Sunset neighbourhood. This is not just a field motion, it's a start to revitalizing the Punjabi Market and a step towards bringing equitable facilities to underserved communities.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff undertake a community engagement
process of the Sunset neighbourhood to seek feedback from residents and organizations, including the Vancouver Field Sport Federation, field hockey associations in BC and Canada and community leaders that identifies the desired outdoor amenities for the community by Q3 2023. The engagement shall include data already collected by local community leaders and be included in the findings in a Report Back in Q4 of 2023.
Vancouver Field Sport Federation:
At the Parks Board Council meeting Commissioner Brennan Bastyovanszky stated that Field Hockey is the next sport in line that VFSF has identified for a synthetic turf. We are excited to see that they are supporting our sport, and correcting the imbalance that was left when Andy Livingston was resurfaced with a bladed grass synthetic turf for soccer.
Equality for all sports:
It was refreshing that the Parks Board is concerned about not displacing other sports with the installation on a stadium style turf at Ross/Moberly. We are confident staff will be able to devise a design, that will in fact allow for more sports in this location. Bringing this community together and allowing for more events to be staged in this wonderful community.
Lastly, we are excited that the Parks Board is finally seriously looking at replacing one of the two fields that Field Hockey lost when Andy Livingston Park was converted to be predominately for soccer use.
Our Momentum continues to grow!!!!
Thank you to everyone that attended the Parks Board Meeting and to all those that continue to show support.
MORE TO FOLLOW AND STILL LOTS TO DO!!!!
