The Issue

My name is Faith and I was a college student at Eastern University from  2023-2024. I had always wanted to go to college, but could never find the right one. It wasn't until my mom applied as a nursing professor here that I decided to look more into this one.  My hope was to major in theater and when I saw they had a major in theater and this college was all about inclusivity I thought this was my school, especially as someone who tends to get overlooked and excluded. I'm autistic and have ADHD along with several mental health issues, but acting has always been something I have been passionate about. It is my own therapy and one of the very few things that seem to help me anymore. I finally feel free when I do it and like I can escape. This has been my dream ever since I was 8 years old, but I was unable to get the experience like I had wanted to. I was unaware of children's theater, my elementary and middle school didn't do productions, and high school I got to be too focused on the school work and I was scared to audition because of several people who bullied me, including my choir teacher. Even when I somehow managed to audition for the fall play my senior year, I still wasn't cast even though seniors usually get cast their last year. I also was unable to both my parents working full time and I knew balancing acting with my schooling would've been extremely difficult. I told  this to the head of my major along with how I want and need this experience because this is what I want to do. I also thought it would be great to make up for the lost time I missed out on. The head of my major Dr. Flower directed two productions when I was a student and even after I told her all that she didn't cast me in either production when I auditioned. I had to find out from my mom that she thought I was "flat and couldn't hold a tune", even though I told her after finding out it was a messed up audition due to sheet music. I'm so scared that she still believes it though. Although I had been cast my very first semester in a production,  it was directed by someone else and everyone got a part or even multiple parts due to not enough people auditioning. When I wasn't cast in either of Dr. Flowers productions I went through one of my biggest depressions and mental health crisis's. It got so bad to the point where I was the closest I ever was to wanting to take my own life. Not only did she do nothing during that time, but to this day she still believes she did nothing wrong. I now have PTSD from this situation and now can't even eat or sleep properly  since dropping out. I am so sad I had to give up my college dream because of her. She claims that she had tried to be as accommodating and compassionate as she could, but still did nothing at all. I have since tried to talk to Dr. Tim Brown, who is the head of the entire arts program and he thinks nothing needs to be done, when there is so much evidence to prove otherwise.  I have seen so many cases of students taking their own lives and no one seeming to care at all or they do, but only when it's too late. I was almost one of those people. What I would love is for something to be done. I suffer each and everyday because of this.  I think signatures will be a great way to show that something needs to be done for me and for other students.  I want them to reconsider everything and to finally be given a chance. This is a college that I think needs a change too. I've been told that not everyone is going to be cast, but that is because they are choosing shows that don't have enough roles, compared to the amount of people that audition. This is a college, not Broadway and I think as an inclusive college they need to be including everyone that wants to be a part of it. Ever since I was little I have dreamed of this and making it big. I can't even describe how much I want this. It's the only thing I can see myself doing. One of my  biggest dream roles is even Christine from Phantom of the Opera and has been ever since the 5th grade when I was first introduced to it. Anyways I really would love for there to be a change and for something to be done. Thank you
