Why this petition matters

Started by A Tassy

Fairborn's poverty rate is 18.26%, there is not a venue that offers inclusive and accessible resources for all community members, there is a lack of public transportation, and harm reduction and community care should be expanded. How do you decrease poverty? By providing education for adults and youth (reading, writing, math, financial literacy), access to resources (food, water, contraception, clothing, mental health resources, etc.), accessible childcare, and supporting environmental programs. A community center could be the nexus for all of these things.

The goals of the community center would be to (1) create a safe space for the community to gather while providing a venue for the improvement of the community, (2) provide support and resources to unemployed, impoverished, or unhoused members of the community through classes, workshops, job fairs, and free resources, (3) support existing organizations in Fairborn, and (4) create jobs.

The community center could offer (1) adult and youth education classes (Financial literacy, English, community harm reduction, gardening), (2) free contraception and sexual health resources (including resources for LGBTQ+ community members), (3) a space for a peer support group and mental health resources, (4) a space for community events (Dances, festivals, fundraisers, movie screenings), (5) a safe and free space to watch children, and (6) provide free transportation for youth and adults via a community van or bus.

A community center in Fairborn can provide the necessary space and resources to cut down Fairborn's poverty rate and increase the mental and physical health of the community while striving for inclusion, diversity, and equity. If you support this vision, please sign and share!
