Support Fair Prom Day Dismissal

The Issue

The current VSCHSD prom policy allows senior attendees to leave after period 4 on the day of prom, giving them hours to prepare. However, non-senior attendees (juniors/sophomores) must attend all their classes, and missing even one results in being denied entry to the event. Additionally, students cannot call out for any reason, or they will not be allowed in.

This policy is unfair to non-senior attendees, who are also part of the event and deserve enough time to prepare—especially if they want to attend pre-prom, which starts around 1 hour after school ends. Although it’s not their prom, they were invited and should be able to enjoy it equally. I believe all prom attendees, regardless of grade, should be allowed to leave after period 4 to ensure equality.
