Education First: Support the EMU-AAUP in our fight for a stronger EMU

EMU-AAUP faculty are in contract negotiations with the university, and our contract expires on August 31, two days after fall classes start. We have been bargaining through a state-appointed mediator this week. EMU has proposed exorbitant increases to our healthcare costs, along with low annual increases, which amounts to a pay cut for faculty. We demand that the administration negotiate in good faith with EMU-AAUP. We are committed to making EMU a better and more equitable university, and to settling the contract before it expires.

Our working conditions are our students’ learning conditions! 

• EMU faculty wages are among the lowest in the MAC. Since 2018, they have not even kept pace with inflation!
• EMU Administration has slashed the Instructional Budget by $11 million since 2017, but increased their own budget by $2 million.
• The number of faculty members has decreased by approximately 25% in the past five years.
• The administration is demanding cuts to the health care budget for faculty, while raising their own salaries.
• We demand EMU Administration negotiate in good faith before our contract expires on August 31, 2022.
