Support Emotional Support Animal Amendment Policies at MSU

Support Emotional Support Animal Amendment Policies at MSU
The Issue
In the current conditions, the Emotional Support Animal (ESA) policies at Mankato are unreasonable for students with feline ESAs. The current policies are made with canine ESAs in mind, which in turn makes it harder on students who have ESA cats to reasonably take care of them, due to the different needs of cats versus dogs.
Also, there is currently no policy in place to allow someone with a roommate or suitemate to interact with the ESA without the owner present. Our suggestion is to include an optional waiver for the roommate or suitemate that'd allow them to interact with the ESA.
Currently, drafts are being made and with the help of the campus we can work to create reasonable and fair policies in place.
The changes presented can assist those with feline ESAs to feel more comfortable on campus, and allow them to not consistently fear their ESA being removed or considered out of conduct.
