Support Education Funding and Open Budget Dialogue in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

The Issue

On April 14, 2011, the County Executive presented his 2011-12 operating budget for Anne Arundel County. The funding levels in both the operating and capital budgets recommended by the County Executive are well below the requests made by the Board of Education in February.

As a part of the nation's largest child advocacy organization, the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs is committed to ensuring that every student in the County receives the best education possible. The Board of Education's 2011-12 budget request envisions no increase in general fund positions for the third straight year. Based on the proposed budget, the County school system will have to make significant cuts in nearly every area of school operations.

We are seeking an open dialogue and partnership with the County Executive, County Council, the Board of Education, the Superintendant and the employees of Anne Arundel County to ensure the future of our children and through their success, our County.

In addition to signing the petition below, please contact the members of the County Council directly and let them know that you support the education of the children of Anne Arundel County.
