Dear citizens of Singapore, 

As Singapore prepares for the Presidential Election, we are asking all Singaporeans to support the growing call from the ground for Dr Tan Cheng Bock to return as the “People’s Choice” for PE 2023. He is the man who can unite Singaporeans from all walks of life, from across the political spectrum, from young to old, to support a presidential candidate we can trust to speak up for our people. 

In PE 2011, 34.85% of the electorate voted for Dr Tan Cheng Bock. It was a close race with a win of less than half a percent for former President Tony Tan, who took 35.20% of the vote. Unfortunately in 2017, the election rules were changed to introduce an ethnic component for only Malay candidates, and this change prevented Dr Tan Cheng Bock from contesting in PE 2017. 

Personal & Professional Achievements:

Dr Tan Cheng Bock achieved the highest support from the people in the 2001 General Election, winning an overwhelming 88% of the votes in his constituency. It is because he spoke up for the people that Singaporeans are able to use their CPF savings to help pay for their children’s tertiary fees and that we have free HDB parking on Sundays and public holidays to promote family togetherness.

He has dedicated over 50 years of his life to serve the people of Singapore and speak up when it matters: 

• As a Medical Doctor, clinical teacher (NUS) and Chairman (SMA Trust Fund & other key committees)
  
  
• As a People’s Representative, Member of Parliament (1980-2006 Ayer Rajah) and Chairman of Town Councils & CDCs (Jurong East, West Coast & Bukit Timah)
  
  
• As a leading politician making key executive decisions and mentoring other MPs, whether PAP or opposition (PAP Exco: 1987-1996 ; PSP Exco: 2019-2023)
  
  
• As Chairman or Independent Director on the board of numerous large corporations, both private and government-linked: Chuan Hup Holdings, Dredging International, Jurong Health, SMRT, LTA & more 

The People’s Choice:

Dr Tan Cheng Bock has consistently shown himself to have the courage to stand up for what is right and has even voted against the PAP party whip in Parliament. Many Singaporeans know him, have been helped by him and will vouch for his big heart and upright character. 

Through everything, he has not stopped championing care for people and the right values for those who govern the nation - compassion, accountability and transparency. 

Please sign this petition to ask for Dr Tan Cheng Bock to run as one of the Presidential candidates in 2023. 

As he has already been issued with a “Certificate of Eligibility” to run as a Presidential candidate in 2011, he should have the chance to contest in PE 2023 and Singaporeans should be given the right to democratically elect a President of their choice. 

At a time when confidence in the PAP-led government has been shaken by successive scandals while Singaporeans struggle with the high cost of living and face serious challenges ahead, we truly need a unifying President like Dr Tan Cheng Bock, who can bring us together as “One United People”, beyond political divides.

It is timely for Singaporeans to stand up as one, united in our call for Dr Tan Cheng Bock, showing our strong support to the nation and the Presidential Election Committee.
