Support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Duanesburg Central School

The Issue

This petition is in support of diversity, equity and inclusion policy within Duanesburg Central School.

The school board of Duanesburg Central School is set to vote on adopting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policy for our learning community. While some have wrongly accused the policy of promoting critical race theory and punishing students for racist actions within the school, DEI policy was drafted to ensure that every student that comes through Duanesburg Central School is allowed the ability to safely learn and flourish.

All children deserve to have equal access to opportunities. This freedom is fundamental to our K-12 education program and is extended to everyone without exception. The district also recognizes that certain groups of students have been historically marginalized due to inequities associated with aspects of their identities, including, but not limited to, race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, neurodiversity, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity and expression) or socio-economic status.

Supporting DEI policy means supporting a fair and equitable learning environment for every student, and shows that Duanesburg is a community of neighbors without prejudice or malice.

The formal policy can be found here.
