Montgomery County’s Board of Education has five “district” representatives that are deceptively elected at-large. This makes the entire BoE an at-large body and as such is a recognized vote diluter. A small group of voters is electing ALL the winners.

The at-large voting means your voice is not heard, and there is no accountability for the BoE’s actions when it comes to budgets, hiring, or construction.

Both HB0380 and HB0655 address this deceptive voter dilution by mandating district representatives be elected by residents in that district. Getting these bills passed will ensure your voice gets heard in decisions affecting your child’s education and the property tax you pay for the school system.
