

Thank you all for your support in protecting the tree canopy at Carthay Environmental Studies Magnet. Sadly, our two beloved mature Oak trees were destroyed on June 14, 2024 despite our efforts to get LAUSD to consider an alternative construction plan that could have spared the trees. In the face of this irreplaceable loss, we continue to demand that LAUSD implement its very own Green Schools for All policy and incorporate greening and shade elements on our asphalt playground. While the shade canopy that was destroyed when our Oak trees were killed would take decades to replace, other greening elements would provide benefits to our students and reduce the unhealthy urban heat from the asphalt. We are also requesting that the new replacement trees be planted in the asphalt playground to one day protect children.
