Support CSUSM to Ban Plastic Straws in Beach Cities!
The Issue
The environmental problem that we will be addressing is the plastic pollution of single use drinking straws which is polluting our aquatic systems. Out of all the pollution in the world’s ocean, 90% are from plastic waste and plastic straws remain in the top ten plastic products found in the ocean. The common plastic straw is made out of polypropylene which is a petroleum based product that is made to last forever. In order to limit plastic straws from ever entering the waters of the ocean and entering the ecosystems and stomachs of sea life, we must stop the pollution starting with American consumers. How can you make a difference in reducing the amount of plastic straw pollution? By proposing a ban in the city of Encinitas that will discourage the consumption of single use straws in businesses and at home, we can stop these short lived plastics from invading our oceans. We plan to use our research to make a real change in our local community. By showing your support and signing your name on this petition you are taking a stand with us towards a sustainable lifestyle and making a change in your world.
