The Issue

In Orient, Illinois, there is a stark lack of support or recovery groups for individuals battling addiction. As a resident committed to aiding those in need, I've reached out to our local mayor for assistance, only to be met with silence and inaction. Our community urgently needs a safe, accessible space for recovery groups like Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) to meet and support each other in their journeys towards recovery.

Substance abuse is a chronic issue that continues to affect countless lives across the nation, and Orient is no exception. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, approximately 10% of the population in the United States faces problems with substance abuse at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, without local resources or recovery groups, individuals in our town are left without the support they critically need.

The solution is tangible and achievable: securing a building where these weekly meetings can occur. This building will serve as a safe haven for individuals seeking solace from the struggles of addiction. Whether through a grant or assistance in renting a suitable space, we can provide refuge and hope, shielding vulnerable community members from harsh weather conditions and offering them a consistent venue for recovery.

By initiating NA and AA meetings every Thursday, we aim to empower individuals, fostering a sense of community and resilience. The groups will be self-run and require no additional resources from the town, only the initial support to establish a permanent location.

We call upon local government officials, community leaders, and compassionate supporters to step up and help us realize this vision. With your support, we can pave the way for meaningful change in Orient. Please join us in advocating for this crucial development. Every signature brings us one step closer to providing a lifeline for those in need.

Please sign this petition to urge our local authorities to take immediate and decisive action. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of many.
