Support creation of a Society for Okhla Bird Sanctuary for Public-Private partnership

The Issue

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a vital haven for migratory birds and a rare natural relief for the public in the midst of the urban landscape of the Delhi National Capital Region. As the delicate balance of nature faces mounting challenges, it is imperative that we take proactive measures to safeguard this sanctuary, ensuring the well-being of the avian visitors and the ecosystem as a whole.

This petition is to establish a dedicated Society for the Okhla Bird Sanctuary to allow public participation for the welfare of the Sanctuary. In absence of a Society, the Forest department with its limited resources is severely constrained to grow and nurture the Sanctuary. This Society would serve as a unifying force, bridging the gap between the government bodies, environmental agencies, and the citizens, all working towards a common goal of preserving and nurturing this essential ecological treasure. Through a Society, we can raise awareness and funding, corporate sponsorships, foster partnerships with experts and other like minded organizations, and bring technology such as Artificial Intelligence for the benefit of the cause.

Several such Societies exist across the nation. For example, the U.P State Govt registered Kanpur Zoo Society “KANPUR PRANI UDYAN PRABANDH EVAM VIKAS SOCIETY” under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on 25th August, 2011.

With the creation of this society we can have a structured organization that better enables coordination, communication and decision-making between various stakeholders, such as NGOs and local communities, involved in the conservation efforts. Moreover, we can actively seek grants, donations, and sponsorships and run formal research programs for habitat restoration. Lastly, we would be able to engage with technology experts in areas such as sensing, data analytics, Artificial Intelligence to gather valuable insights into bird migration patterns, habitat usage, and ecological changes, allowing us to make informed decisions for the protection of the sanctuary.

In conclusion, the establishment of a society for the Okhla Bird Sanctuary is not just a symbolic gesture but a practical necessity in our collective efforts to safeguard this invaluable natural resource. Let us join hands and pledge our support to this noble cause, for the birds, for the environment, and for the future of our planet.
