Reinstatement of Artur and Maria's profiles on couchsurfing.
The Issue
Artur and Maria have been organizing CouchSurfing events in Porto for several months now.
For more than 1 month, their accounts have been suspended and the events deleted. The reason given was commercial interests.
They have reached CouchSurfing support on several occasions to explain the true nature of the events.
CouchSurfing insisted on saying events were suspicious and keep them blocked. They took weeks to reply them and ignored more than 50 e-mails from people explaining that those charges are unfounded, how much fun events are and how helpful they have been to visitors in Porto and Porto community.
They reply to people in 2h, still, they fail to consider the content of their e-mails. Furthermore, they haven't presented any evidence of their claims.
Moreover, events location were changed to different places in the city in order to dissipate any claims of commercial interests.
Despite further clarification from everyone involved in the events provided during months and more email reports and references from people attending, Couchsurfing kept suspending their accounts for long periods until they finally deactivated them without further notice.
If you think that Artur and Maria should have their accounts back and get support from CouchSurfing to organize the events, please sign this petition and tell them how those events are like, and how the interaction is between CouchSurfers in Porto.
If no action is taken to find a solution to this problem and reinstate Artur and Maria's account, we are all ready to take whatever action is necessary: publishing this story on our social media, sending it to the press, and on whatever groups in CS website that seem appropriate, in such a way as to make this story known by as large a number of people as possible. We hope that it won't be necessary to take such measures.
The founding ideas of CS were to exchange and share, and this whole issue seems very far away from that.
