We are Jacie Shakotko, Maria Sanchez and Paulina Valenzuela - three student social workers who share a common passion for advocating women's rights. Our commitment to the empowerment, safety, health and wellbeing of women is deeply personal. We believe in supporting women's return to normalcy after experiencing intimate partner violence or violence in general.

We are calling on you to support Bill H.R.2996 - The Safe Leave for Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Act. As of April 28, 2023 This bill has been introduced in House, aims to amend the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 to permit leave for an employee who needs time off due to being a victim of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking or stalking.

We believe that it is crucial to support the return to normalcy and a fulfilling life after violence for all victims.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), on average nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States alone; this equates to more than 10 million men and women each year (NCADV). It is crucial that we provide these victims with the necessary support they need during their recovery process.

By supporting this bill we can ensure that victims do not have to choose between their job security or their personal safety; they will be able to take time off work without fear of losing their livelihoods while dealing with such traumatic experiences.
